Election Information 2020

The CTGCD Board of Directors consists of five members.

These five Directors are elected by the voters of Burnet County and serve a four-year term.

The District observes the same four precincts as the Burnet County Commissioners Court with one at-large position.

Director terms are staggered on a two-year interval.

Elections are held in November of even numbered years and a director may serve consecutive terms.

Date & Location of Next Election:

Elections for directors of the District are conducted on the November uniform election date in even-numbered years.  Accordingly, the next election for members of the Board of Directors of the District shall be conducted  in November 2022.

The 2022 election is For At-Large(Special Election), Precinct 2 & Precinct 4 Positions Only.

The election shall be conducted at the polling places established by Burnet County to serve the county’s regular election precincts within the District, as required by Sections 42.0621 and 43.004 of the Texas Election Code. Detailed locations will be posted when received by the District from the Burnet County Elections Administrator.

Requirements & Deadline for Filing for Candidacy:

Section 8810.052(a) of the Texas Special District Local Laws Code provides that one director shall be elected by the voters of the entire district, and one director shall be elected from each county commissioners precinct by the voters of that precinct.

Section 8810.052(c) of the Texas Special District Local Laws Code requires that to be eligible to be a candidate for or to serve as director at large, a person must be a registered voter in the district. To be a candidate for or to serve as director from a county commissioners precinct, a person must be a registered voter of that precinct.

Moreover, to be qualified to serve as a director, Section 141.001 of the Texas Election Code requires that a person be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, a resident of the State of Texas for 12 months, and a resident of the district for 6 months prior to the regular candidate filing deadline (78 days before election day), not totally or partially mentally incapacitated, and not a convicted felon, unless pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities.

A person that desires to be a candidate for the director election must timely complete and submit an application for a place on the ballot for the election.  A person shall indicate on the application for a place on the ballot the precinct that the person seeks to represent or that the person seeks to represent the district at large. Applications for a place on the ballot may be obtained downloaded and printed out from the Secretary of State’s website (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/index.shtml).

The deadline for filing the application for a place on the ballot is 78 days prior to the election.  For the November 3, 2020 director election, the deadline for filing the application for a place on the ballot will be Monday, August 17, 2020.  The deadline for write-in candidates is 74 days before the election.  For the November 3, 2020 director election, the deadline for write-in candidates is Friday, August 21, 2020.
